The virus will never disappear. Regardless of your area's death rates, you will be exposed eventually (unless you spend the rest of your life quarantined).

Yes, but eventually is not today, and a) there may be a better treatment for long COVID by then, b) hospitals in my area will hopefully be less overwhelmed, c) vaccinated, healthy people can still die to COVID-19 and, d) maybe I can skip Omicron and get some other, even less severe, variant instead.

The trendline is heading towards Fall 2021 levels, which weren't great but still at my personal acceptable levels of risk. A few more weeks, hopefully.
