Tesla is barely mentioned in that article which is somewhat surprising

Not surprising at all. He was a minor player in the Current Wars compared to his primary benefactor, George Westinghouse. His image was rehabilitated first by Serbian-Americans and then by webcomic artists and Redditors, who turned him into a secular saint.

Most of what people think they know about Tesla is not actually true if you examine the historical record. But software engineering as a discipline demands business villains and craftsman heroes, and so Edison and Tesla were warped to fit those roles even though in real life there is only evidence of cordial interactions.

Anyone know if there is any benefit to doing a reinstall vs just installing over current Ventura ? Is it for peace of mind, placebo?... Any quantitative comparisons ?

For myself, peace of mind. Previously I installed them over an existing system, never had any issues.

I have a repo for my dotfiles and install scripts so i can set up my system in like an hour

Any tips to setting up macOS dotfiles? I set up a new Mac today and was going to go that route but after trying to do a diff of "defaults read" and seeing that its thousands of lines largely unrelated to macOS I gave up and changed the obvious things using the settings menu and now just have to deal with all the other minor differences as they popup.

I can't help with that sorry, I keep the Mac settings on default as they are usually works for me, dotfiles only have terminal/vim/ssh/git settings :|

I find it quite nice, personally. Reinstalling yearly-ish allows me to examine what tools I'm using and see if I could replace/remove any of them.

This is the bigger thing, really, because the way macOS upgrades is basically to apply your existing setup over a new install.

I’m not sure you understand there business, having the fastest electric vehicle is one of the end products of all there in house engineering. I’m sure Mate and team understands a whole lot more than perhaps you give credit.

Apropos of nothing stumbled upon encyclopedia Britannica the other day, anyone know what’s up with that and if there are any pros to it vs Wikipedia ?

I used Britannica while in prison due to the obvious "No Internet". It works well enough: the articles are OK and from authoritative authors unlike many wikipedia pages but I found them a bit lacking in full detail; the main problem is that the range of topics is much much smaller, to the point where it was far less useful for detailed research. For prison, use as a basic reference, it was probably perfectly OK but for more demanding research it's not adequate.

Anyone know the NAND chip config for all these devices ? So if 256 is two 128 on the M1 Air, does that mean 512 is 4x128 or 2x256 ? Etc..

That's the issue - two spots, but instead of maintaining a 128GB part for 2x128, they're shipping 256 as 1x256.

I can see the logic, they're not maintaining a whole part/inventory just for the lowest config. I'll let everyone else argue over whether it's worth the penalty or not.

The 512 is 2x256. I'm pretty sure the Air line only has two spots for NAND flash.
