If you have a team that works fine, then yes, okay, don't do that stand-up. But usually people don't know what the other guys are doing in the other office or even just the next guy, because projects are complicated in real life. And if you really follow that pattern, then each member takes less than a minute and you are done in 5-10 minutes with a whole team. There is nothing to optimize, even if it's unnecessary.
