I agree... I don't know who thinks having Javascript as "bytecode for the web" is any good: Even other languages(Fay, Clojurescript) need to compile to JS.

Wouldn't it be better if we had a standarized, fast, language that other languages like the aforementioned can target?



What do you think JavaScript is? It's a standardized, potentially fast† language that other languages can compile to.

No language is inherently fast. C can be slow (see CINT) and at least a subset of JavaScript can be fast (see the OP).


That is exactly what asm.js aims to be: a fast target to compile to. As a bonus, it is fully backwards compatible and portable too.
