I think we all go through life managing day to day life sometimes just in day to day decision making we rule things out a few times and don't really consider them. Over time they build up and without even knowing it ... they're walls.
Sometimes they're easy to break through. I was driving to a medical appt in a next door town and realized there were several restaurants and stores very close to me that I never considered ... I kinda knew they were there, but I'm never there and so day to day "I want to go someplace to eat." those options are completely out of my mind.
I think sometimes it's just the pattern of life, and as you do things, even when you know they're there, by not doing them you give the things you don't do a sort of rigidity.
Other things like dreams (music) and so on, I think there's a lot of fear and deeply held emotions that play a part.
A local sports team coach said "A lot of people want things, but almost nobody is willing to do what it takes to get it."

I think that's true.
