Commerical X servers were really something, especially those without an academic/FOSS heritage. Desqview/X [1] was one of those "DOS plus a UI and multitasking" OSes that competed with Windows 2/3.x and GEOS/PC, that windowed with... you guess it, the power of Motif and X. I think twm was the original window manager that came with it, and you could run emulated DOS instances and Windows sessions in X terminal emulators.
