In that case it's sort of accurate, particularly the "let him" part. The re-negotiation of NAFTA was a piece of political theatre initiated by Trump. In the end they resulted in essentially the same deal as before, which is what the Canadians wanted, but they needed to throw him a few bones he could hang "victory" off in speeches. Hence "let him" (perhaps "steer him" ?)
The whole thing was a colossal waste of time and money, with Trump starting from "worst deal in history" type rhetoric to "amazing new deal" after its signed, but you have to squint pretty hard to find differences.
