When shit breaks you need to know as early as possible, drill down to a precise location, and determine who to contact for resolution. You also need to thoroughly document all of this for post mortem analysis delivered to the executives and monitor for operating trends to determine future operating expenses of current technology operations.

Tool knowledge is a super low concern. Awareness of what tools are available is generally sufficient.
