I just don't see the point from Meta's point of view, apart from more data collection maybe, and I don't see the point from the users point when Mastodon and Twitter are doing this, with arguably more respect for their users than Meta.

Twitter is valued at ~$10b and still generating ad revenue.

There is demand for a Twitter clone that is closer to what it was before Musk joined.

Therefore as a pure business opportunity it makes a lot of sense.
