Scaling out Postgres with the Citus open source shard rebalancer (citusdata.com)

Distribution by compound keys and rebalancing when configuration changes (e.g. a new node is added) are features I would consider essential in the core product. Long-standing commercial competitors are doing this and it's really only the last small gap I can see to Citus superseding them.

Great product but not available as an AWS hosted service so can't use it. One area where Azure is quite a bit ahead actually.

You can use Azure Arc[1] to run Citus on AWS EKS without having to manage everything yourself. Even though it's not quite as managed as Citus on Azure, it's still a quite lot easier than setting up a whole production cluster yourself.

Interestingly, the only hosted option was originally on AWS. The company was purchased by MS and it was deprecated.
