That's just it, Xorg did tons of things that it never should have been involved with. It used to have a print server FFS.
Wayland is trying to do one thing well, whereas Xorg did many things poorly. It's valid to feel frustration that the community doesn't coordinate to put those APIs in place, but it's very much not valid to blame Wayland developers for it.
