Google News is a very useful tool for a lot of people trying to find coverage from sources other than the select few that they might often frequent. I use it to find how international articles affect my country, my area, etc. I also use it to find articles in other languages.
Aside from that, Google News content is heavily integrated into the normal Google Search pages. It's not simply a matter of simply ignoring it; Google makes their Google News results some of the top results for searches for current events.
If you think the majority of people are going to ignore what Google posts as the most relevant search result, I don’t think there’s anything more I can say to dissuade you.
