It's trivial these days - just go to Home Depot and pick up a few models and see what you like. They generally are pretty consistent now.

That said, some people are absolutely insane when it comes to color temps. I learned this the hard way helping friends covert to LED - the pickiness is something I never knew existed and gave me a new appreciation for how much people care about "their" version of light.
