This started as side-project to learn Android. The app ended up being quite polished and so I might as well share with the world. Some of you guys might find it useful.
I currently use it to quickly check whether a domain is taken, when a good name pops into my head. The app also displays full price and coupon details as well.
The backend is based on my main project, domcomp.com, which more or less does the same thing. However, I think now that the native app does indeed provide a better experience (which is a whole separate interesting discussion).
For now, the app has a basic set of features. If you guys like it and start using it then I'd be happy to add more. Comments welcome!
This isn't, no. It's based on/powered by our main project www.domcomp.com - a domain price comparison and availability checking tool. However, we are considering whether we can split some bits off to be opened sourced :)
We made this as part of a weekend hack / side-project. We originally thought that the only words left would be mega long or ones that noone would recognize but surprisingly there are some quite good ones!
As it stands, there are around 1.8k left.
Interestingly, since we showed people on Reddit yesterday, there have been around 100 domains that were in the list but are now taken.
Fair point - and I actually do agree with almost all of those. However, I think some of these are inevitable biases that any sort of reviews will face - I think xkcd puts it very well http://xkcd.com/937/ :D
I started the review section as a counter point to the main page, which is purely about comparing prices. For the points in your last paragraph, I fully intend to blog about them where possible. For the time being, I hope that at least some people would share some of those experiences in the review description!
Well, I guess the whole reason for their blog is to garner interest in the product and good for SEO etc. However, it's still can be somewhat interesting :)
