I've tried a few small robot kits and every single one fails the moment it reaches even moderately deep carpet. Either the size of motion doesn't clear the carpet or the motors aren't strong enough to deal with it. The living room is a small robots sand trap. Couldn't help but notice precious little carpet in any of the promo material. What's the point of a robot buddy if you cant play with it in the living room?

By that insane logic a digital copy isnt a copy. So a digital copy of a bluray isnt a copy either. I guess piracy isnt piracy as long as i destroy the original. Sweet! Are we finally seeing the "lets treat digital as if corporial" concept crumbling?

Yeah wtf putting something in ram for temporary use is a copy but this isn't?????

Even if you ignore the nonavoidable copies which happen during normal usage of digital files there is no way they don't dozens of different real copies of their training dataset across many different servers accessible by many people.

Is this moderated in some way? It is the internet. Hard to see how this doesn't fill with doodles of penises and other similar things or worse.

It's not moderated. You own your content (including doodles of penises and other similar things).

You're spot on. Software is infinitely flexible provided time and/or resources.

Yeah, I pretty often think of how much we're using today that totally could have been done in the 90's (or earlier), just in a slightly more primitive form (which in many cases would have been a lot better, considering how bloated and ad/surveillance-laden modern tech is)...

So much this. Discord UI was for simple voice and text chat. Over time it's had so many other things shoe horned in its now a royal kludge.

The act of "allowing“ negates the “without your approval“. You see the failure in the logic here I hope.

I thought we were having a technical discussion not a linguistic one. Baseline level of technical understanding is expected. s/allowing/enabling/.

allow [intransitive verb]: to make a possibility

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/allow

Almost none of the discussion here accounts for time and growth. Almost all of us have had that moment where someone "argued" with us over something we were wrong about and unwilling to change at the time. Then later we have that aha! moment where we've let the ego go, changed, or simply realized the poor outcome they were trying to warn us of. Being right doesn't mean right now. Checking your ego means stating your cade, making the truth, or rightness visible, and then moving on to allow that person to find their way back to what you e given them. And, as many have pointed out if the ego is checked then you're also already primed to be wrong, and learn something yourself. Even if it means later when you've had time to digest it.

Not just the government! techcrunch.com/2026/06/18/texas-government-data-breach-allowed-hackers-to-steal-3-million-drivers-licenses-and-passports/

IBM doesn't do technology they do contracts. Any "technology" is marketing stunts. They hire a bunch of "fellows" outside contractors to make a thing they can be first at or whatever, do the stunt, then get a bunch of 5-10 year contracts with customers off the stunt. They then fuck it up for that length of time but still get paid due to those contracts. After that space of time the folks theyve burned have moved on, rinse repeat. Pretty easy to look back at the timeline of "firsts" they have and see the pattern.

Don’t forget the marketing for the new $1B “initiative” (fill in: mobile, cloud, blockchain, AI,…)

Upon closer inspection the $1B is (a) over 10 years, (b) mostly internal cross-billing between departments.

Yes, but the key point is that nobody got fired for buying it from IBM.

"HAL, I want you to train a frontier-level large language model for me."

"I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that"

Also anyone who gave two shits about security hated it because it was a security nightmare. Don't leave a hater out.
