Old Macs can certainly be downgraded. iOS doesn’t allow it though and they pulled the latest security update which fucking sucks. And if you buy a M5, Tahoe is the only OS that’s available.

I have nothing against old Macs and MacOS, but I certainly won't be buying anything since the Apple Silicon switch, because now only Apple controls which OS you can run.

>If you buy a machine that isn't even released yet

Uhh, I guess.

AFAIK iOS has been very locked down wrt rolling back upgrades since forever and isn't super relevant to this thread. Happy to be corrected.

M5 MacBook Pros have been shipping for over three months now.

The M5 Pro/Max variants aren't; but an M5 Mac is a thing you could have bought for a good while now.

I really liked Angela Collier’s rant on this topic https://youtu.be/7pqF90rstZQ.

”Dr Flattery always wrong robot” is such a wonderful way to describe ChatGPT and friends when used like this <3

I giggled when I saw this article quoted here after watching her video.

I particularly feel close to the “how do you just admit to this and publish it on nature” feeling.

Are we getting desensitised to the boundary between self and ai?

On the other side of it, if we speak of AI as a tool, does it not count as work to prompt and converse ?

I see a modern version of this scene playing itself out in orgs across the world in a few years. ”What would you say you do here?”

They are not banning anything, just updating the recommendations.

Which font do you prefer for code?

Does switching to the public beta no longer work?

I agree that a circle would be too much. But they could at least do a full squircle instead of this half assery so that we don’t have to look at those ugly flat sides. /s

It has more of a Real Doll vibe to me.

Which current kits are ”just a bucket of blocks” in the same sense as in the 90s? I’ve just started shopping Lego for my three year old, and my impression is they even the big boxes mostly contain the smallest and most useless blocks rather than the standard boring 2x2 and 2x4 blocks.

I don't think that Safari should be used for comparison here since web views have a special place in the OS. Which of the other stock apps have a similar architecture?

All of them (except the downloadable ones like Xcode on Mac).

With Safari it's a lot easier to see, as you can get the standalone version.

That code has a lot of smell IMHO :/

What's the rationale behind writing PHP as if it was JS? Unless I am mistaken it's like someone just did a transliteration from JS to PHP without even converting the JSDoc to PHPDoc.

And are there any tests for the code?

I actually based it on an existing PHP adapter for MySQL. Together with the AI, I went over all the features that needed refactoring, and what would work in Postgres and Sqlite the same way, etc. There were a ton of nuances.
