It is, but I typically only carry two - the 3% back and the grocery 6% back as the others are mainly online or automated.
> I carry exactly one debet card in my wallet (.eu) and use it for everything
Not sure about eu but in the US that's generally not advised, due to the semantics of how the cards work and legal fraud liabilities.
Basically, if someone skims your debit card, they take your money and you have to sometimes fight to get it back - but still, you are without the money for a time. If someone skims your credit card, they're stealing from the bank, and for obvious reasons they seem much more eager to investigate - but you still have your money.
I only ever use debit cards these days when I need cash from the ATM.
Here it's about the same. Even with a skimmed credit card you're on the hook for the bill, there's no chargeback. But skimming is really rare because we no longer have the old insecure systems of card imprinting, signature, magstripes etc. It's all chip&pin or contactless.
I don't think anyone I know uses a credit card for daily purchases here in Spain.
Skimming is rare in the US too, as tap to pay is at 90% of payment terminals, and chip reading is at 99% of payment terminals (guesstimates based on the last time I swiped my card).
I've had this happen to me and the bank in question asked me a couple of questions about where it happened (an ATM in a really dark location!) but quickly reversed the charges. Happened in London, so was OS to boot.
That was a few years ago don't know if its different now.
Using debit card for online purchases has substantial negatives and credit cards are much preferred (this may be US specific), but in the EU credit cards are a different kettle of fish and not as good as US cards.
It is, the content loads first, then the js for the cookie banner, then the favicon. If the js fails to load (I blocked the request as a test) the page loads just fine, it isn't blocked by that.
Oh man it extended well past the 90’s. Finding some weird windows video codec in a dodgy .ru domain was a time honored tradition for quite some time.
I remember all the weird repackaged video codec installers that put mystery goo all over them machine.
The article bashes VLC but I tell you what… VLC plays just about everything you feed it without complaint. Even horribly corrupt files it will attempt to handle. It might not be perfect by any means but it does almost always work.
I had found that VLC does not play a MPEG-TS file very well (although it recognizes the file and plays it, it does not work very well); converting it to another format first, will cause it to play better, in my experience.
MPEG-TS files are just a pain to play in general. It was never intended as a file format for prerecorded video, and lacks some features (like seek indexes) which are required for reasonable playback.
In most circumstances, a MPEG-TS file can be remuxed (without reencoding) to a more reasonable container format like MP4, and it'll play better that way. In some cases, it'll even be a smaller file.
Optimize why? So that we can spend the extra seconds on our social media apps? People need to learn to slow down and not try to save twenty seconds when boiling water.
Anecdotally, with two young children (5, 1), the savings add up and mean twenty more seconds with them or not being overwhelmed after they're asleep with the state of the house.
Boiling the kettle means I can make pasta and a sauce in about 12 minutes, boiling on the stove just adds tons of time. Given that the kettle is next to the stove it's simply self sabotaging not to use it, one button press.
Yeah huge difference if you have 240V mains. A 120V electric kettle is not much of a timesaver (though perhaps still worth something if it frees up a place on the cooktop that you need for something else).
Why should I optimize my code? To save 420ms for what?
I dunno. I try to optimize everything in life, maybe it's the engineer in me (I find it fun and interesting how people do things inefficiently). I also try and measure ingredients exactly (e.g. 420g of flour, not 419g or 421g), however that might be some low form of OCD. /shrug
Whether I use that extra time or not doesn't really matter for me.
That particular tweet only says that he preferred Trump to Kamala which IMO is a reasonable opinion. It does not say that he likes Trump. Given the choice between a douche and a turd sandwich you pick one. Maybe post some other tweet?

Maybe for you. For people like me, voting for Trump is completely unacceptable, in particular after the experiences with the first Trump administration.
One of the things I enjoyed most about the Witness were the environment puzzles where you had to align things in the scenery with your viewpoint to complete it. And also definitely the little philosophical voice recordings were great. It's a game that deserves playing with an open mind and spirit in order to fully appreciate everything it offers.
