AI is loved by mediocre talentless people who don't value expertise, don't value skills, lazy as fuck people who wants creativity without the effort.
If this is the "creativity" that they are producing for me, I want none of it. So I continue to block all and any LLM generated things, be it music, video, articles, social media posts, email, etc and I continue to block people who give me LLM generated garbage without thought, because they simply don't value my time (other than my day job ofc, because I still need to put food on the table).
I want an economy where AI economy is totally separate from non AI economy and we don't interact with each other. At least I make an attempt to isolate that myself.
There's also another side of it: there's a legitimate case for places where we don't need high quality creativity.
We have a world of clip art and stock photos. A lot of this is not best effort-- people grab what's in the catalog, and the catalog is itself often either mediocre or overused to the point where it's a blatant signal of low-effort. If you want a smiling washing machine to put on a flyer for the building's laundry room, or a generic photo of St. Basil's for an article about Russia, nobody really complains about that.
AI could fill a similar niche. We know it's crap, but it's good enough crap. Except it's absurdly expensive crap when the externalities are actually priced in.
The key difference now: It is really really easy and fast to generate this crap. It overwhelms society, and any industry it touches. It breaks everything.
I don't care if I am behind times or whatever. I try to regulate myself from AI. I finally just use Brave search without AI and don't go to Google search whatsoever.
The more I see AI videos, AI songs, AI writings, AI whatever etc, the more angrier I get. Fucking piece of trash pushed by mediocre bastards who don't want to bother investing skills to do good music, art, in the first place and steal their IPs and "look ma, my dick is making new songs just by prompting Suno with the liquid I ejaculate, screw those starving artists!"
The tool is being created and used very irresponsibly by society. It wont' get better, it will get worse.
I am going to try to find a way to block all Youtube channels that I find using AI. Next, I will also block all domains that use AI writings, AI images, etc. If this makes my internet usage unusable, so be it.
I started from just literally cutting ties with someone who said "my kids make videos and games using AI, and you will be left behind" to my face. Yup, I cut ties with that person not because of political discourse, not because of Trump, but because of AI.
The only thing that I can't avoid is using AI in my job because my fucking employer tells me so. I still have to put food on the table or I risk bringing literal swords, guns or ropes and go to literal death march against these "tech leaders". I hope that day will never happen. But who knows, maybe society will be desperate enough to finally have to use violence as the last resort.
There's zealotry all over the place and here's your prime example of a new kind. It's just not necessary to be this upset about machine learning. There were people that were this upset about electricity too.
It's not going away, your anger isn't going to help you or anyone else.
People have been pushing out low quality everything for a long time, technology is making that more efficient. It's an old story being retold again.
There is no reason for not liking something to breed this much hate and division.
> There is no reason for not liking something to breed this much hate and division.
Other than the fact that the tool itself is being used to spread actual hate and division, and is currently destroying the fabric of society.
Dismissive and condescending comments like this also only serve to further push people away from AI. Writing it off as someone just not liking something new does not make the actual issues go away, nor does it make people's anger go away. If you earnestly believe that's all it is, I think you're in for quite a shock in the future.
I feel the same way about vegetarians. I don't care what you choose to not eat. If you go around spreading hate for people that don't make the same choice and break up relationships over other people not making the same choice as you, there I have a problem.
>maybe if you say cheeseburgers are the future and you will be left behind
The question being is this kind of cheeseburger enthusiast A) morally reprehensible or B) annoying.
I'm 100% on board with B, and distancing yourself from the annoying dude who ate at McDonalds twice and won't shut up about how cheeseburgers are the future. Not about going on an angry tirade about how cheeseburger people are evil.
It seems like kind of a smooth continuum from a to b. I've certainly given some angry tirades in life regarding things that are merely sufficiently annoying.
But I don't intend to diminish the possibility of existence of morally reprehensible AI pushers.
An old friend of mine got super AI pilled. He's an AI musician now too. When he sends me his latest suno track, that's merely slightly annoying. I haven't cut ties.
STFU, its my life, I choose what to do. I bet a lot of people feel the same way as I do. When that happens, what are you going to do? You can't kill us all.
I've finally caved in and made an HN account because I realised you're someone I completely entirely agree with. Never have I been more passively enraged over something I also feel like I have so little control over. Radical rejection is the once choice left to me and I am happy rejecting people over this too.
I guess I'm saying you're not alone, and there's likely dozens of us.
