Another one for personal sites is GoAccess. No DB needed, only log files. It shows nicely; which page was visited, how often, browser statistics etc. https://goaccess.io/

Same here! I lived in big cities all my life and am used to the convenience of good public transport. Want to travel and rent a nice car, just when needed.

I always feel the jump in price from standard to nice rental car is too much to bother with (like a factor of 2.5-5x). So I drive a lot of crappy rentals, but they’re just a way to get from point to point.

Automatic transmissions (for EU where manual is popular - I guess this doesn’t apply in countries where everyone drives automatics already) are generally only available with higher trim levels and yet don’t cost much more to rent, so this might be an option to get a “nicer” rental.

As another person going to LAN parties. I am nostalgic about many things. CRT screens and CRT TVs are not on that list!

SNES/N64 games might look a little better on them, but I take that over the downsides. I can also look longer and more comfortably at modern screens.

On the other hand my current desktop PC with a huge GPU and CPU cooler is not particularly carry friendly either..

If you have a topic to write, why let AI hold you back? If you worry about mistakes or AI writing better, use it to proofread and get suggestions?

My personal blocker is that I have a bunch of unrelated hobby topics and don't want to maintain multiple blogs. Someone interested in landscaping and woodwork might not be interested in programming..

Same here in 2000s, studying CS was completely MS free. The professors mostly used linux or Mac anyhow. The university system for students was web based. Papers were written in LaTeX with official template. The email system was hosted by the university and not based on outlook. Math related professors did not even use a PC at all during class but a blackboard/OHP/paper. So I don't see a problem for the netherlands..

Another person living in Japan. Sounds about right. A unit from a good brand (daikin, mitsubishi) costs ~$800? More or less depending on the room size. We had them installed when we built the house, installation price included. Two are enough to keep our house cool or warm in any season (it's a well insulated house). We have another in the guest room, use it only for when guests stay.

Our renovation company had rip-off pricing on years-old models, so we just asked a few electronics stores for quotes. First looked up the cheapest online options as baseline pricing, and then used the in-store sale deals to stay at the same total price but get the units in the bigger rooms upgraded to fancier/higher grade options.

That does remind a little of Kodak, inventing the digital camera.

For gaming, the internal render resolution of a gaming console might not go over 1080p anyway. If it's a Switch 1 it might even be only 720p. So if that is the main usage, you are right, a 4k screen is a waste of money.

After years of digital only I started buying CDs and books again. I am much more selective though. Just buy what I will listen to many times or for artist support.

Bought a total of 3 CDs in two years. Movies are more difficult, as I can't stand watching most the second time. Got some Ghibli classics.

CDs are digital.

But less so than Spotify or Apple Music.

Safari and the lock screen clock were my biggest issues.

The lock screen clock went from "can read in a split second" to "wait what number is this?".

Luckily there was a setting for that one.
