FUD. Don’t spread nonsense. They’re as rigorous as any other tech journo, you just have an axe to grind.

I don't see how this is FUD. Both a sibling comment and my parent pointed out that there's more to the story than simply "claiming the word automatic." They provided extra context (which the article didn't).

I am merely relating my experience that stuff like this is common with 404 Media. They'll omit nuances - whether intentionally or just being shoddy.

The article links to an entire separate article about automatic.css.

Indeed; ask them why they want to pause immigration and see how difficult it is for them to choke back the 14 words they can’t say in public.

Thank the pseudo intellectual billionaire patron club masquerading as serious thinkers.

This thread is more a reminder of how easy it will be to find people to man the gas chambers when Republicans turn their sights on the homeless. Some wretched dehumanizing of people here.

Is it really so surprising?

There's a reason why people lock themselves up in gated communities as soon as they can afford to. People want nice things, and out there they can't have nice things. Society sucks. Everything public sucks. Better to create your own little oasis of goodness in private property so that those who would ruin it literally cannot enter.

Elitism is the private solution. Public spaces are still unsolved. You'd do well to present a solution. Ignoring it and then accusing society of "dehumanization" is not gonna solve anything. There's a limit to the general suckiness people are willing to tolerate before they radicalize and vote for the guy promising to clean it all up.

Correct, as evidence, look how easy it was to make you overlook the current abuses of the homeless (at the hands of corrupt nonprofits) because it doesn't look sufficiently fascist to trigger you.

You know why

That bit of legalese is really important: it obscures intention, and adds layers of deniability to the rich and powerful putting their thumb on the scale. “I guess the socialists and egalitarians just lost in the totally free and fair marketplace of ideas!”

I had an advisor really good at calling stuff like that out as "having an eye for the trivial." The advice helped me reframe my personal reading toward substantive engagement, rather than surface-level nitpicks like the order of words in the title.

What an oddly emotional response to a harmless suggestion.

The world is burning becuase people like you tell normal people they have to eat bugs and lentils and anything else is basically being hitler.

Why do you think outside of the coffee shops of the large metropolises people aren't

Rather than saying "hey shift your car to electric as its cheaper and more powerful and less smoke in your neighbourhood", it's "you need to stop consuming energy"

Rather than saying "support that local solar plant rather than growing ethanol", it's "stop eating meat otherwise you kill the planet"

Rather than saying "hey maybe we should get rid of oil so we're not reliant on fragile international supply chains, here's how we can make fertiliser from thin air" it's "you shouldn't drink milk"

China bad

I'm a) quoting Xi's speech and b) projecting rapid China development to Mythos level. Either you think China will never get to 'Mythos level' because you think China bad; or you think they will release the weights, because you think China bad. Its incredible the weight of ideology over facts in this discourse

You haven't quoted anything actually. Provide sources to your claims.

These free speech warriors didn’t actually care about free speech. They just wanted to be able to say horrible things without consequences.

These people are actively hostile towards free speech. The fact that we let these people call themselves patriots is embarrassing.
