Sorry to be pedantic, but the wonderful “planning” quote is actually from Dwight Eisenhower (https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Dwight_D._Eisenhower#From_the_...).

Thanks, didn't know that.

Belarus’s human rights abuses and crimes against humanity (as defined by the ICC) are highly relevant no matter whether its government signed the statute or not, or whether its government trolls consider it a “toy court”.

So then it should be easy to explain the relevance of the ICC in this situation instead of just saying it's "highly relevant".

Some countries have the Universal jurisdiction [1].

The idea is that whenever the crime happens, it can be tried in the country. Even US had a couple of cases where Universal jurisdiction was applied.

[1]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_jurisdiction

That doesn't really make the ICC relevant in a way worth acknowledging since by definition the same applies to many places at the same time.

Every country that implements Universal jurisdiction can try foreigners pretty much like ICC, yep.

It’s interesting that (a) a military grade nerve agent was used, (b) the dosage given was sub-lethal, and (c) Putin had no qualms about releasing Navalny to German care. Makes you wonder if this was all about sending a message.

Putin wants dissenters to be on notice. He can reach you and it will be painful.

If he just outright killed the man the news cycle probably would have moved on a while ago.

I imagine he is delighted by how this is all going.

The problem is who(s) is the one sending message. Putin or someone who doesn't like Putin sitting on his office.

People who don't like Putin won't stay long in the office/alive. He's a KGB agent, paranoid about keeping his power, I'm quite sure all activities of Kremlin officials receive his approval someway.

I’m so sorry people have to suffer from such awful behavior.

Last year a troll at my company Slacked his friend a horribly misogynistic remark about a women’s mentorship group meeting. But by mistake, he sent it on the general channel. Within minutes he was fired and escorted out the door by security.

That’s what I understand too. (I worked on the Quartz Core team for a couple years at BAML.)

I was at BAML just as quartz was starting, but never worked on it. I heard all the stories of them creating their own bi-temporal database etc.

I also heard in the early days it was a bit resource heavy on a user's machine.

I bet he just aliased commands for expository reasons: “uniq” aliased to “unique”, and “tr A-Z a-z” to “lowercase”.

This is also a great way to keep several squadrons of reasonably capable fighters maintained and in operation. In a time of national emergency they (and their pilots) could be drawn on.

That’s correct, the US population density correlates fairly closely with the average annual rainfall: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_rainfall_climato...

It’s there:

> Chemical effects are especially problematic at the decomposition stage. Additives such as phthalates and Bisphenol A (widely known as BPA) leach out of plastic particles. These additives are known for their hormonal effects and can disrupt the hormone system of vertebrates and invertebrates alike. In addition, nano-sized particles may cause inflammation, traverse cellular barriers, and even cross highly selective membranes such as the blood-brain barrier or the placenta. Within the cell, they can trigger changes in gene expression and biochemical reactions, among other things.

"Even in landfills" per OPs claim. I don't see that claim being made in your selection there.

Decomposition... would occur... in landfill...

Landfills... are lined... so.. they don't... leach... into... groundwater..

Safari on iOS would not render Nikita’s article until I killed and restarted it, nicely illustrating one of his key points.

iOS has evolved into such a buggy mess I switched to Android. I used to be a huge Apple fan, and now I don't use any Apple products. I feel they are one of the worst offenders in degrading software quality, unfortunately.
