The Heritage Foundation has been operating since 70s. They've played the long game, and it's only now that we are, en masse, looking at the culmination of decades of work by them and thinking, "wow, that was quick!".

> Lot of arrogant people here who think they are safe and better than anybody and blame OP.

You see this a lot in the Apple "community". Apple can _never_ do wrong. Apple can _never_ make a mistake. Apple's choices are _always_ the best choices.

I don't understand why people put corporations on pedestals.

Corporations play the role of gods in our society.

edit: about the same role as Greek or Roman gods.

Because their TC is $400,000 and they need it to justify their Bay Area mortgage. Come on, folks, follow the money.

Do I want a job that exploits me, or do I want no job at all.

Wow, quite the decision.

I feel like when they introduced the neurological engine, they got away from the previous algorithm and it's just gone to shit since then. Apple being Apple, they John Force their way to victory by keeping their foot on the gas even when the wheels are spinning and the engine is smoking.

I printed this out (so I could have it with me everywhere) and read it when I was younger. It was so cool to see it come together so quickly. Some of these works (this one, Beej's guides, etc) are some of the best CS documentation we have and don't get nearly the credit they deserve.

We should ban voting aged people from using them.

Right? Past couple years software quality has taken a shit.

Yes, much the way some used to (still do?) try and emulate Steve Jobs. There's always some successful person these types are trying to be.

It nuked the tail engine so actually TWO engines failed.

Yep. Now do 3 decades of metal fatigue.

Did I understand the report correctly that the part was scheduled to be replaced in the future after a certain number of hours, it just hadn't hit the threshold yet ?

If you're referring to this quote (excerpted from the AVHerald article linked elsewhere in the thread), I don't think so:

> At the time of the accident, N259UP had accumulated a total time of about 92,992 hours and 21,043 cycles [..] A special detailed inspection (SDI) of the left pylon aft mount lugs would have been due at 29,200 cycles and of the left wing clevis support would have been due at 28,000 cycles

This isn't talking about replacement, only inspection; and it wasn't going to happen in the near future: 7k cycles at four flights/day means inspection is due in 5 years.

"7k cycles at four flights/day"

It wasn't doing four flights per day. As a long-distance cargo aircraft it was doing two flights per day, and I doubt it was flying every single day of the week.

So we are talking about at least 10 years before that inspection was due.
